LOCATION: LITTLE CORN ISLAND, NICARAGUA

Little Corn Island is a small slice of paradise located on the caribbean side of Nicaragua's coastal line. From a bird's eye view, the island's inner guts seem to be covered in a lush green, comparative to the green that resembles jealousy. But of course, whose friends and family WOULDN'T be jealous when you start to describe this little oasis located 50 miles east of the Nicaraguan coast. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the Northern tip of the island to the middle portion of its stretch. It is a place where the order-of-the-day is relaxation and coco bread. A place where the pace of one's day ends up seeping into a calm and mellow rhythm, allowing for the simplicities of basic life to be enhanced by local interactions with nature and people alike. Nights were spent starting at Tranquilo for a happy hour, only to end up at Miss Bridget's for local dish rondon (RUNDOWN), which is a seafood melody that bathes in the chorus of a heavy coconut-blessed soup. Eventually we would find ourselves walking the sides of the dock, wondering why the moon plays itself so shy as to let the stars take over the night sky. Wandering off into the local residencies to play pool amongst those who call this place, home. It's a MUST-VISIT if you're ever in Nicaragua. Everything from the food, to the serenity of sweet nothings, Little Corn Island has placed itself amongst my favorite destinations ever visited. So enjoy, and take a mental retreat onto a Nicaraguan jewel, where life transforms itself into a different atmosphere during the 30-minute romp buster that is the panga boat transfer.
